Eric holds a bachelor’s degree in English and world literature from California’s Pitzer College, a master’s degree in educational psychology from the University of Colorado at Denver, and is currently working on an education specialist degree in administrative leadership and policy studies from the University of Colorado at Denver in its School of Education.
Teaching since the age of 19, Eric’s career began in college when he served a two-year stint with Americorps, working with academically at-risk preschool students (focusing primarily on literacy). Eric came to Denver to complete his teacher training via the Stanley British Primary School teacher preparation program, where he interned with first and second graders at Steele Elementary in Denver and taught a 3/4/5 combination classroom at Stanley. Eric just completed his fourth year of teaching a 5/6 combination in humanities at Foothills Academy.
Eric’s areas of expertise include the instruction of writing and teaching history as narrative, along with a deep understanding of educational psychology. He still maintains strong connections with the Stanley intern program and teaches a section on student-teacher relationships each year at that school.
“I feel that I bring flexibility and strong relationships to the classroom along with a strong sense of who each of my students is,” notes Eric. “I would love to affect change at Foothills (particularly in the middle school) from a more administrative perspective. I would like to provide a flexible but guaranteed and viable curriculum based on the standards in the middle school and ensure consistent, rich experiences that differentiate us from any other school."
